Mayhem in High Heels

Rating: An Interesting Diversion
This novel was funny without trying too hard. Not ‘laugh until I cried’ funny, but at least I smiled with mild amusement. Considering the depressing drivel I’ve been subjected to lately, I’ll take it.
Maddie Springer is a shoe designer (you have to love a gal who loves shoes) who is about to be married to a hunky cop named Ramirez. When her wedding planner does a face plant into the wedding cake, she sets out to solve her murder.
I was afraid this author was a Janet Evanovich wannabe when a rival for Maddie’s affections was introduced in the form of a rag reporter named Felix. I wasn’t in the mood for a rerun of the whole Joe vs. Ranger thing. Thankfully, this author changed up the story and forged a different path for her heroine. Unlike Stephanie Plum, who still can’t decide whom she loves more, Maddie chooses her man by the end of the novel.
Aside from enough mental forehead slaps to give her main character a concussion, this was a fun, well-written novel.
